Giving Back Grant
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and its employees have a strong history of giving. It’s in our corporate mission and mindset to do what we can for others. While many of us may be re-thinking how much we can afford to share this year, the BlueCross BlueShield Foundation has created a way to help you continue supporting much needed charitable programs.
Through the new Giving Back Grant Program, the Foundation is offering you a way to earn money from the Foundation for nonprofit projects that directly benefit South Carolina’s most vulnerable populations. Through the program the Foundation will award a $500 grant on behalf of a volunteer who completes at least 40 hours of service a year with an eligible nonprofit organization.
This offer is available to benefit nonprofit organizations that are already approved. The long list of approved programs represents communities all over South Carolina. It includes Free Medical Clinics, the S.C. Nurses Foundation, obesity programs, mental and childhood health programs and a menu of others. All the approved programs provide vital health services to people in need.
The program celebrates the Foundation’s history of relationships with successful nonprofits. It also encourages employees to continue lending support to these same important groups. The grant program actually supports organizations two-fold. Nonprofits receive hands-on volunteer service, which results in financial support from the Foundation. It’s a win-win for everyone involved. It also profoundly doubles any volunteer’s impact.
To be eligible for the grant, volunteers must actually work for the organization in a hands-on manner. Serving on a board or participating in a walk-a-thon does not count toward volunteer hours. If a volunteer works in a nonprofit’s office stocking supplies, filing or making physical repairs, this would count. The volunteer must complete 40 hours within a calendar year. Volunteers can not use paid leave from work to earn volunteer hours. Once a volunteer meets all criteria, the Foundation will write a $500 check directly to the organization on the volunteer’s behalf. Click here to read the Giving Back Grant Guidelines.
